Since breaking onto the scene back in 2014 with their shimmering 2014 EP ‘Cusp’, Kllo have been slowly but surely cementing their sound, style, image and fanbase with a series of killer singles and a healthy touring schedule both here and around the globe.

Today, Chloe Kaul and Simon Lam have put a stake in the ground for the next era of their exciting journey. The time they spent away from home navigating tour circuits and venues around the world last year left the Melbourne cousins feeling vulnerable and isolated, and their long-awaited debut album ‘Backwater’ is a response to those jarring experiences of displacement in the face of whirlwind external changes. Partially pulled together on the road, and then perfected at Lam’s secluded bungalow, the 12-track LP will develop the sonic textures and styles from their 2016 EP ‘Well Worn’ even further when it drops on October 20.

To mark the official unveiling of ‘Backwater’, Kllo have also shared the very first single from the album. Built around a sneakily absorbing beat and a striking warped vocal hook, “Virtue” makes full use of Kaul’s sirenic melodies and Lam’s subtle studio touches. “The song is about not knowing what you’ve got until it’s gone, whether that be a part of yourself or somebody else,” the pair explain. “It’s the present moment of finally coming to that realisation.”

Kllo are also heading out on a tour around Europe, Australia and New Zealand later this year to celebrate the release of ‘Backwater’. Here’s all the info:
