London wordsmith Little Simz blew us away at the start of this year at her Oxford Art Factory show with her bravado-laced delivery and vivacious arrangements. At just 23, the triple-threat has a discography spanning 10 EPs and mixtapes AND two albums. Six months after releasing her phenomenal sophomore LP ‘Stillness In Wonderland’, “Backseat” is Simz’ latest offering.

“Backseat” puts Simz’ flow on show, side-stepping over percussive lines while shedding light on her mental health: “Been in wonderland for time tryna’ find our way out / You can hear it my rhymes, I’ll be thinking aloud.” There’s a fresh layer of honesty and vulnerability to her words, best explained by Simz herself: “I don’t talk or say too much + since the beginning my music has been my way of communicating with the supporters + people who really care about me+ my art. BACKSEAT is an update for the people. It’s all in the lyrics.”
