Say what you will about the army of electronic producers rising out of the Sydney scene over the last few years, but MUTO has well and truly done the hard yards and earned his stripes as a key up-and-comer. Since his progressive flip of Justin Timberlake’s “What Goes Around…Comes Around” went apeshit viral on SoundCloud a couple of years ago, the Northern Beaches producer has gone on to catch the seal of approval from his good buddy Flume (in the form of a game-changing track repost), sign with the amazing Of Leisure Records and land a lot of love from the head honchos at triple j thanks to singles like the epic instrumental “Through The Fog” and his soaring Deutsch Duke collab “Wildfire”.
With his live presence and online profile turning heads both here and abroad, MUTO is now gearing up for his biggest few months yet. With a slew of his own headline shows, two vital BIGSOUND Unearthed showcases, a set at Listen Out Melbourne and international support slots for ODESZA all in the pipeline before the end of the year, this talented young producer is on the cusp of widespread global success.
On top of that, he’s also dropped a killer new single that perfectly serves his rising local and international profile. Featuring the haunting voice of Brisbane’s Emerson Leif, “Say Nothing” is a full-bodied but shadowy EDM anthem marked by inventive synth hooks, shimmering sound effects and hypnotic melodies that bring the most striking elements of Leif’s voice to the fore. While there’s a captivating sonic thread that runs through all of MUTO’s music thus far, each track also stands on its own with a distinct individual energy, and “Say Nothing” is no different.
MUTO’s debut 7-track EP has been penciled in for an October release. Get around the stunning video for “Say Nothing” below:
