They’ve only been on the scene for a hot minute as a musical collective, but Winston Surfshirt have already asserted themselves as one of the most exciting fresh sounds in the Sydney scene since dropping their sneakily addictive debut single “Be About You” earlier in the year. Premiered right away by triple j – a home run any new artist can only dream of landing – the breezy indie jam went on to enter full radio rotation, nab the #1 spot on the Spotify Viral Charts, and catch the attention of Beats 1‘s Zane Lowe and KCRW‘s Jason Bentley. Basically, things couldn’t have gone much better for this Northern Beaches slasher and his band of merry men.
Further capitalising on the success of the breezy track, Surfshirt and co. have shared a trippy video that introduces them as a band all about making great music without taking themselves too seriously. Directed by Nicole Alexander, the clip amusingly splices the tops and bottoms of male, female and doggo features into each other as the outfit dance, play music and chill against a muted grey background. It’s just a feel-good experience all around.
Winston Surfshirt are gearing up for the completely sold out “Be About You” single launch at Sydney’s Newtown Social Club this Saturday, and then they’ll be swinging into Big Pineapple Festival in May to keep that buzz alive.
