A NZ national treasure, with two GRAMMYs and six ARIAs under her belt, Kimbra has announced her fourth studio album with an exclusive single for fans. The follow-up to 2018’s ‘Primal Heart’, Kimbra’s upcoming album (name TBC) sees her break ties with major labels for an independent release, and with Son Lux‘s Ryan Lott a co-producer on the project, we can only expect the best is yet to come.
To launch the new project, Kimbra has linked up with KLKTN, an emerging tech startup connecting artists with fans, to create a series of multimedia artworks. The pieces comprise recently composed music, visual art, and BTS content covering the polymath’s creative process. The album’s preview tour has already sold out across the US, but fans around the world can support Kimbra as an independent artist by purchasing a digital artwork.
“With this project, I wanted to freely explore new possibilities, new mediums, new ways to express myself,” says Kimbra. “Experimenting with technology as a way to transcend boundaries is an idea that’s always appealed to me.”
“Different Story” is a smouldering album intro, paving the way for the first official track with intoxicatingly sparse instrumentation and subtle vocal effects that showcase the depth of Kimbra’s range. The album intro has arrived with a visual art piece from Kiwi designer Patrick Rowe, but there are only five available so you’ll need to get in quick.
